Ferrophoto
Industrial steel transformed into abstract expressionist art through an innovative process Ferrophoto, a fusion of metallurgy (“ferro”) and photography (“photo”) that creates original large-scale works on glass.
Process
Each Ferrophoto piece undergoes a tenuous and lengthy process that begins in loud, hot, gritty steel warehouses. From there, the sheets travel to a quiet studio, where Crane meticulously etches, waxes, and processes them over weeks and months. The steel sheets are then photographically captured and mounted on large acrylic glass panels ranging from 8-30' in length.
